Among my geeky passions there are surely Marion Zimmer Bradley's novels. During the years I've collected almost all the Darkover and Avalon books ^.^, and in the past I've often enjoyed drawing ethereal priestesses with a blue moon tattooed in their foreheads.

Lately I felt like Avalon inspired me again in drawing something, and before realizing it I was already scketching some characters from the first two books: The Fall of Atlantis and Ancestors of Avalon.  I mean, the first two in the internal chronology of the whole saga, not the one of their publication. So, below there are Deoris, Domaris, Riveda, Micail and last but not least  Tiriki. ^.^

Those characters belong to the Marion Zimmer Bradley Litterary Work Trust and Diana Paxon. No Copyright infrangment is intended. They are just a small tribute.

Last sunday Showtime haired the first episode of The Tudors' third season. Now I'm getting used to wait for this tv-show in springs. And I'm glad to still have something to watch on monday nights (of course I download it) now that BBF is over.

Honestly speaking, the Tudors is a crap of a tv show. It has no historical accuracy (some facts are completely reversed or invented), the characters play at being sexy and glamorous as they were attending a fashion show, and they speak and act like nowadays people. For period drama lovers this could be hilarious, but the Tudors is one of those tv-shows one likes to watch, also to laugh about it. When I look at John Rys Meyers, I don't think that he is Henry VIII. I think "Oh, there's Bryan Slade on tv", and I wonder why his hair aren't blue, expecting him to bring out an electric guitar from nowhere saying: "I want to meet Curt Wild".

But, in some way, it's so silly that it is entertaining, intriguing, and absolutely not boring. And my inner english letterature lover is more than pleased. Who cares if it's not faithful to history? As always, I'll watch it with pleasure just to have fun. And besides, luckily its seasons are always very short (around 10 episodes), so you don't reach the point to end up tired. The first episode was a bit slow, but I know by experience that there will be an increasing rythm as long as the series proceed. And I'm looking forward for it.

I've never saw the movie nor read the books. But I'm willing to, And I'll surely do it in the future.

Anyway, I thought  this test could have been funny. A Daemon in Philip Pulmann's fictional universe is the animal counterpart of someone's soul.

The animals I've always felt more near with are hawks and dolphins. But the text result surprised me. According to it my Daemon is

Yesterday,  Korean television aired the first two episodes of their new live version of Hana Yori Dango (by now, I'm beginning to lost count of the many live actions inspired by this manga  XD), and I must admit I was waiting for this.

For over an year the fandom had been in turmoil anticipating and questioning about what ifs, casting, delays and now our expectations had been fullfilled.

In my opinion this is its best dramatization produced so far. It's not cheesy like Meteor Garden, or ridicolous like the 1995 first movie, or OOC like Hanadan (I want to forget about the upcoming chinese version).  Among the drama listed above Boys Before Flowers is, at least concerning the casting, the most faithful to the manga.

I like to watch  a drama when the series is in hype and everybody is into it, chatting, lurking, and besides it's Hanadan, not an unknow story, so I bet the raws and the subs will be avaliable in a couple of hours.

The next three months are going to be a lot of fun. Now  I stop. I'm going to lurk on the Soompi forums ^ . ^

I've decided to transfer all my fanlisting banners from my profile page to this post, they are beginning to became too many, and I think they need a place on their own. Perhaps this could been a bit childish, but I can't help it, collecting fanlists it's a guilty pleasure of mine.

DVD cover
Yesterday afternoon, with a delay of 20 years, I've watched for the first time what is considered a teen cult movie, "Breakfast Club". Not that I hadn't heard of it before, cause it had been quoted countless of times everywhere. But I simply missed it everytime it was aired on tv ^^.

Speaking of other Molly Ringwald's movies, I've never liked "Sixteen Candles" and  "Pretty  in Pink", so it was a surprise for me to be pleased at the end of the vision. I've found myself really entertained by the happenings of the Brain, the Athlet, the Basket case, the Princess and the Criminal. And when the princess and the criminal finally end up together I thought: "I KNEW IT. I KNEW IT" (I'm such a fangirl at times)

Watching this movie had been a divertissement, but a very enjoyable one.

As I already said before, I've always liked The Adventures of Sinbad, an old fantasy series created by Ed Naha. It was full of wonder and magic (at least in its first season) and every episode had plenty of "enchanted moments".

Among them, I still remember a song sang by Maeve (the sorceress apprentice) and Doubar (Sinbad's brother) in episode 6. I've always wondered about this melody, and wether if  it already existed or was expressly crated for the show. Surely, it had a celtic sound as you can notice in the video below:

And celtic it was... )

Two years ago the mobile company Anycall realized a promotional video to advertize its latest model. Their commercials usually star famous people from Asian entertainment world, and this time their leading characters were the singer Lee Hyori and the dancer Cho Myung ae. Perhaps, those two names don't tell nothing to people who are not into Asian stuff, or not interested in this kind of subjects, but actually, this is really an extraordinary pairing, because the first girl is South korean, and the latter North Korean.

Their two countries, despite the geographical proximity, the common culture, history and language are divided by a political, economical and phisical wall
since 1945, which prevent almost every contact between them. For this reason, nowadays they couldn't be more different. Quite the opposite. As a matter of fact, while South Korea is a rich, free, relatively democratic country, in the North  people are starving, living as prisoners of their own tirannic nation, where even the most elementary human rights aren't allowed. They cannot  either use cell phones (except for people very close to the "Dear Leader"), which is a crime punished with detention, torture, and even death.

Anycall's basic idea is that their company will allow people to make calls also to the most secret and forbidden country in the world. Even if by an advertising point of view this is genial, humanely it's very cynical. The company used a burning, painful, delicate theme just to make money, and Myung-ae will never be able to use the cell phone she had been promoting when she'll be back home (she had been given a special permission to shoot this CM in Seoul). But despite all this, it's a touching, tearing, heartbreaking video, which suggest to a nation broken in two that there's still hope, and that perhaps, someday they will be unite again.

I'd like to report a news I've read on Bronteana's blog. It seems that Stephenie Meyer recently said that to create her character Edward Cullen,  leading male role on the Twilight series, she took inspiration from three definite literary heroes:  Fitzwilliam Darcy from Pride and Prejudice,  Rochester from Jane Eyre, and Gilbert Blythe from Anne of Green Gables.

Summer is finally come, and as always, at night I can’t sleep at all. I often wake up at 03.00 AM because of this awful hot weather, and I hate to twist on my bed without doing nothing, so I always keep on watching a movie or a tv show. Last summer for example I’ve finished the whole HBO’s Rome, both 1st and 2nd seasons (why, why, why on earth I always choose series fated to be interrupted?).
Anyway, those days I was searching for my new “Anti-Insomnia Summer Show” of the year, and I’ve realized that it’s almost a month that I don’t watch a drama. My choice was between two series I’ve been waiting to start for ages: Legend and Hong Gil Dong . They are both historical Korean dramas with some hints of fantasy. Legend arouses my curiosity in all its aspects, but I guess it’s too tragic, and I needed a more light-hearted story now: so the answer was

Promotional

Everybody talked about HGD for a long time. It had been a great success, but I’ve fully understood all this fuss only after watching the following video months ago. ATTENTION. It’s terribly spoilerous, but It's only episode 7 (of 24), and I believe that it didn’t compromise a future vision. On the contrary, it partially shows what you have to expect.

</lj-embed>

After the vision, my first reaction was this:
I WANT TO WATCH IT – I WANT TO WATCH IT – I WANT TO WATCH IT
And I was right, now that I am at episode 4, I can assure that this drama is GORGEOUS. And don’t be mistaken by the angst in this video. Actually this is one of the most funny, hilarious, innovative and original k-drama I’ve ever watched. Like in Heath Ledger’s A Knight’s Tale, we have a blend between an enchanted ancient past and our modern age. People fight with swords, but at the same time they wear sunglasses, and dance listening to disco music.

Sunglasses       Fist meeting
You can consider Gil Dong as a sort of Korean Robin Hood. But even if there are plenty of analogies between Robin and Gil Dong, the latter is not the traditional hero type. As a thief, at leat at the beginning, he cares more about his own interests than poor people's necessities. We can say that he helps others just by chance. XD.

Anyway, I like his strange role, even if so far, my favorite character is the prince. Usually, in this kind of stories, I prefer bratty guys (like Gil Dong) over bishounen boys. But this time even if I appreciate the protagonist …..I believe that Chang Hui is much more interesting. He’s so intriguing, tormented, mysterious that I can’t help but love him. ^^’

Chang Hui

One more thing. The leading acress…….. is ….Sung Yu Ri. OMG. I didn’t recognize her at first. She was Bo-Ra in Snow Queen. Such a different role. She really improved a lot. (I prefer her here)

Gil Dong and Yi Nok

I must admit it. I’m already obsessed. I never, NEVER, laughted so much watching a drama, and I’m looking forward for the following episodes .

A couple of years ago I fall for a new obsession: Asian Dramas. I was a child in the eighties, and I watched a lot of Anime at the time. As a consequence since 1990, I keep on reading mangas, and I liked them a lot. Or at least, I liked them for a long time, but lately I begin to get bored. There was simply no longer something able to capture my attention. I still read them randomly, and with pleasure, but I've lost the passion.

However, recently, by chance, I ran into a new kind of internet trend. The dramas as I was just saying, and I've found myself totally hooked again about oriental things. ^^' There is so much stuff to watch that you are spoilt for choice. I've started some series without finishing them, but usually I can't stop until the final episode, (I've even watched a 16-episodes-long-show in 2 days).

The reason is that those dramas, even if full of clichés and melodramatic elements, are basically passionate and exciting. There's Love, Humour, Nonsense, Angst, just all the things that other tv-shows are beginning to lack.

Then, I'll use this post to quote all the dramas I've watched or I'm going to watch in the future, with a rating vote and some random opinions. I prefer korean dramas above the others, followed by j-dramas. I don't like that much t-dramas, even if sometimes i choose to watch them.

This one will be a Work in Progress Post, and  I'll update it each time I'll finish a new drama.
